Pakistani passport has been ranked as the fourth least desirable in a 2017 passports index for the wealthy and well-traveled.

The Nomad Passport Index ranks 199 citizenships and passports on five factors, more than any other passport index.

It shows the best citizenships in the world to hold on the basis of visa-free travel, international taxation, perception, dual citizenship and personal freedom.

The five factors and their weightage are:

  1. Visa-free travel – 50% of ranking
  2. Taxation – 20% of ranking
  3. Perception – 10% of ranking
  4. Dual citizenship – 10% of ranking
  5. Overall freedom – 10% of ranking

Pakistan, at Number 196, is ranked only behind Afghanistan, Iraq and Eritrea. Pakistani neighbour India ranks at 160 while China ranks at 164.

In an earlier index by Henley, Pakistani passport came out as second worst for international travel after Afghanistan.

Whoever is responsible in Pakistan and can fix this ranking needs to act now.

Sweden has topped the most desirable passports index while Afghanistan has been ranked the least desirable passport.

While most indexes compare only a passport holder’s ability to travel freely, citizens of different countries deal with far different requirements to pay tax, live freely and avoid scrutiny when traveling.

The Nomad Passport Index (you can watch a video too) shows the true value of citizenship in each country from the perspective of a high-achieving citizen who wants the freedom to minimise their tax obligations, diversify their wealth, and travel freely without judgment.
