7 Pakistani universities make it to the world’s top 980 ranking
Seven Pakistani universities have made it to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016-2017 (THEWUR). THEWUR lists the 980 top universities in the world.
COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad, has ranked No 1 in Pakistan, leaving NUST behind.
THEWUR is the only global university performance table to judge world-class universities across all of their core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
These seven top Pakistani universities are:
- COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad
- National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad
- Quaid-i-azam University (QAU), Islamabad
- University of Agriculture (UAF), Faisalabad
- Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), Multan
- University of Karachi (UoK)
- University of Lahore (UoL)
First three Pakistani universities are ranked in the 601-800 table. The last four are in the 801+ table.
Capital city Islamabad has stood out with three top universities in Pakistan while Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Faisalabad each get one mention.

THEWUR reputation scores are allocated based on 20,000 responses from academics across the world. Year on year, more of them are now naming Chinese institutions as the best universities in their field.
