The ranking below is based on data from Credit Suisse, published by Business Insider.
According to Credit Suisse, Pakistan is 11th strongest military in the world in 2016. India is 5th strongest.
This is 2015 data. Some changes have taken place since then:
🇮🇳 India: No 5
Budget: $50 billion
Active frontline personnel:1,325,000
Total aircraft: 1,905
India is one of the largest military powers on the planet. It has the most active manpower of any country aside from China and the US, in addition to the most tanks and aircraft of any country besides the US, China, or Russia.
India also has access to nuclear weapons. It’s expected to become the fourth-highest military spender on earth by 2020.
🇵🇰 Pakistan: No 11
Budget: $7 billion
Active frontline personnel: 617,000
Total aircraft: 914
The Pakistani military is one of the largest forces in the world, in terms of active personnel. Credit Suisse also credits the country with having large tank, aircraft, and attack-helicopter fleets.
In addition, Pakistan is thought to be building nuclear weapons at a fast-enough rate that it could have the world’s third-largest nuclear arsenal within the following decade.

Wali failed to finish his PhD in international conflict analysis from University of Kent at Canterbury, UK.
As part of his study fellowships, he went to Canada’s Pearson Peacekeeping Center, American University Washington DC’s Summer School in Conflict & Peace, ASPR Austria’s Peace-building Summer program and GIIS’s Program in International Security in Geneva, Switzerland and UK’s Reading University’s Humanitarian Intervention Conference.
He has participated in international conferences along side specialists from SIPRI, which produced the above data.
While he worked as a journalist, Wali had the opportunity to visit Siachen Glacier, the world’s highest battleground, and forward posts along the Line of Control (LOC) on Pakistan-India border.
He also had the opportunity to visit Pakistan Ordnance Factory, Rebuild Factory, PAF Kamra Base.
As a leadership thinker, Wali has spoken on military leadership at Pakistan Naval Academy, Karachi. He appears on national TV on matters of significance to Pakistan.
