Pakistan 6th most populous country. Will the rank change after census?
16 Dec: The Council of Common Interests agrees to start Pakistan’s sixth population census on 15 March, after a delay of eight years.
The house listing and census will be carried out in one go. The census may be held in two phases. Each phase may be carried out in all the provinces simultaneously.
Pakistan Bureau of Statistics last week issued a gazette notification of census to be held in March-April after Supreme Court notice.
The decennial census has been overdue since 2008. The last census was conducted in 1998, after a delay of seven years. – Dawn
1 Dec: The Supreme Court of Pakistan gives the government the option to provide a date for a census by 7 December or the court will summon PM Sharif.
A three-member bench presided over by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali held the proceedings of the population census delay case.

29 Feb: A meeting of CCI chaired by PM Sharif decides to postpone the national population census. The new date will be announced after consultation with provinces.
Earlier, the process for conducting the sixth population census was to start across the country from 28 March to be completed in 19 days.
