Happy Planet Index Pakistan

Finally, there’s an index which puts Pakistan in a better light than most developed countries: Happy country list.

According to Happy Planet Index, Pakistan with a score of 54.1 ranked #16 out of 151 countries analysed. We are placed better than US, UK, Australia.

Below is the Pakistan snapshot of Happy Planet Index (HPI) score:

Happy Planet Index Pakistan

According to HPI website, the new HPI results show the extent to which 151 countries across the globe produce long, happy and sustainable lives for the people that live in them.

The overall index scores rank countries based on their efficiency, how many long and happy lives each produces per unit of environmental output.

Each of the three component measures – life expectancy, experienced well-being and Ecological Footprint – is given a traffic-light score based on thresholds for good (green), middling (amber) and bad (red) performance.

These scores are combined to an expanded six-colour traffic light for the overall HPI score, where, to achieve bright green – the best of the six colours, a country would have to perform well on all three individual components.

In another interesting infographic called Happiness Around the World, produced by Movehub, and featured on Time and Forbes, the data speaks for itself. May take a while to download.

You might be surprised to see that the United Kingdom, Australia and the United States don’t even make the top 40!

Its becoming acknowledged that using objective measurements in the realm of subjectivity (social sciences) is self defeating and only misleads, so no what what kind of study it may be, it can be challenged… but of course for layman there is a journalistic value, and perhaps to gain viewership the authenticity and technical integrity doesn’t really matter as most people won’t really notice it, rather believe what’s reported…
