Update on 9 November 2014: UK tops countries positive that China is next superpower

China superpower

Will China eventually replace the US as the world’s leading superpower? This is a question Pew has been asking people all over the world for a few years.

People in the United Kingdom, currently the US’s biggest ally, top the countries which are positive that China is the world’s future leader.

Over half of people in the UK (53%) responded positive to this question in this Pew survey. Which is even more than the people in China (50%) itself.

Pakistanis’ confidence (37%) comes at No 10 after the likes of Germany, France, South Korea and the US.

Interestingly in 2011, 47% of Pakistanis responded positively to this question. How this positive sentiment dwindled over a three-year period could be an interesting question for a scientific study. I leave it to the opinion-poll experts!

Will we see Pakistanis’ positive sentiment increasing after the $46 billion investment plans in Pakistan, bagged by visiting Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif this week? Or, regardless?
