Why your SAT score says more about your parents than about you!

The College Board announced changes to the SAT, a test that has long revealed more about a student’s family circumstances than about her intelligence, as shown in the chart above by The Washington Post’s Christopher Ingraham.

The board also announced that it would offer tutoring services for free in partnership with the Khan Academy, which could reduce some of the disparity shown in the chart above — but the advantages of a young person who grows up in a wealthy family extend far beyond access to tutoring.
